Efficient Hands: Series of articles for speedy PC work

January 24th, 2006 by Chuck Sharp

I think I’m going to write a series of posts on efficient and effective computer input. The more I think about this, the it becomes obvious that this is a huge topic, and a very important one. Often times I’ve run across similar articles on the latest keyboard shortcuts and custom shortcut programs, but I haven’t seen as much on the overall concepts of using the keyboard and mouse to their fullest potential. So, here’s the plan of posts:

  1. Basic, Essential Keyboard Shortcuts
  2. Advanced Shortcuts
  3. Keyboard shortcuts and mouse basics - right clicks and scroll wheels
  4. Command line concepts
  5. Fast Firefox: Efficient Web Browsing
  6. Efficient E-Mail
  7. Efficient Word-Processing

This may change, but it’s the plan. :-) The big idea that’s going to be developed is that the keyboard and mouse are pretty limited input devices, but by learning the tricks, and most importantly, learning to use both at the same time for certain tasks, you can quadruple your rate of getting things done on the computer.
