From the book of GNU and OSS
August 19th, 2007 by Chuck Sharp
(I wrote this in May 2005 for fun, never did anything with it. Based, heretically, from John 1. Enjoy.)
In the beginning was the Kernel, and the Kernel was with Linux, and the Kernel was Linux. It was in the beginning with Linux. All open source things were made through it, and without it was not any open source thing made that was made. In it was life, and the life was the light of computing. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There was a man sent from Linux, whose name was Raymond. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. Linux was the light. It was in the world of computing, and the world of computing as it was meant to be was made through it, yet the world did not know it as it should, because of the evil one. The light came to its own, and its own people did not all receive it. They were deceived by the dark one, who appeared as a being of light, proclaiming the Way of Proprietary Systems and grace through works of licensing tithes. But to all who did receive the true light, who believed in its name, it gave the right to become children of the kingdom of light, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of the Way of Open Source.
And the Kernel became stable and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only son from the maker Linus, full of grace and truth. (Raymond bore witness about it, and cried out, “Linux was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through the prophets Raymond and Stallman; but grace and truth came through the Kernel.
