102 ways to relax, reduce stess, and enjoy life more

Ducks on the water

The following is a list I’ve been creating for a while. It’s built from many random sources, and has no particular order. I haven’t tried many of these, but they all sound good to me!

For your body

  1. Go to the gym
  2. Workout at home
  3. Go for a walk
  4. Go for a run
  5. Eat dark chocolate, it’s good for you and mood altering too!
  6. Kick and punch a heavy bag (like those used in boxing)
  7. Sign up for a martial arts class
  8. Avoid alcohol
  9. Drink green tea
  10. Take adaptogenic herbs, such as ginseng
  11. Play sports
  12. Cut the caffeine
  13. Take yoga
  14. Take B vitamins
  15. Eat less
  16. Breath deeply and slowly for a few minutes.
  17. Take a power nap
  18. Get more sleep
  19. Take a hike, literally
  20. Get a massage
  21. Learn Tai Chi
  22. Stretch
  23. Go to a sauna
  24. Have a day at the spa
  25. Drink herbal tea
  26. Take a hot bath

For your mind

  1. Turn off your cell phone, or leave it behind
  2. Get rid of a lot of stuff
  3. Simplify your life
  4. Stop doing low value things
  5. Pay attention to what has your attention
  6. Process your email and paper inboxes to zero
  7. Stop watching TV
  8. Leave work at work
  9. Only check e-mail 2-3x a day - seriously!
  10. Take a real lunch break
  11. Say “no” more often, and mean it
  12. Learn to be assertive
  13. Identify and reduce the major sources of stress in your life
  14. Deal with your problems
  15. Do a weekly review, well, weekly.
  16. Renegotiate the commitments you have with yourself
  17. Renegotiate the commitments you have with others
  18. Have an actual three day weekend without work
  19. Let go faster
  20. Meditate
  21. Go camping
  22. Go on a relaxing get away drive
  23. Practice progressive relaxation
  24. Go on a relaxing vacation
  25. Pet your pets
  26. Learn your stress signs
  27. Clean the garage
  28. Do a relaxing visualization exercise

For your soul

  1. Slow down
  2. Share your problems with your spouse
  3. Clear your conscience
  4. Do something where you get to yell (martial arts, sports, …)
  5. Talk to a good friend
  6. Talk to a therapist
  7. Start a blog
  8. Keep a journal
  9. Write a letter to someone that you would never send
  10. Find some alone time
  11. Avoid energy vampires
  12. Forgive someone for real
  13. Read an inspirational novel or book
  14. Read the bible
  15. Go to church
  16. Give money and things away to people, church, and charities that can use it
  17. Do affirmations
  18. Write out inspirational quotes, scripture, affirmations, and goals on index cards for regular review.
  19. Get up earlier than everyone else
  20. List 100 things to be grateful for
  21. Pray about your burdens and ask God for help. Lots of help.
  22. Give thanks to God
  23. Praise god
  24. Listen to inspirational programs in the car
  25. Listen to funny audio programs
  26. Create vision for your life
  27. Make more friends, and remember to appreciate the ones you have.
  28. Serve as a volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about.

For fun

  1. Play with your kids
  2. Hang out with friends
  3. Smile more
  4. Laugh more
  5. Plant a garden
  6. Play with a puppy
  7. Get a pedicure or manicure
  8. Get a foot rub
  9. Give a foot rub
  10. Go through your picture albums for fun
  11. Call up an old friend or a relative
  12. Find a fun hobby
  13. Sing out loud and with soul
  14. Watch a really inspiring movie
  15. Watch a really funny movie, preferably with friends and family
  16. Read a book that’s fun, funny, or inspiring
  17. Go to an art, science, or history museum by yourself or with friends
  18. Go out to eat at someplace completely different from the usual
  19. Visit the puppies at your pet store, but be careful, they grow on you.
  20. Learn to draw, dance, sing, or play a musical instrument.

    I have done the “Get a massage” for the first time a few weeks ago. It truly did help, it was amazing. I would recomend it. I have also found going for a long walk with my wife in the evenings has helped.

    The irony is that this list itself is too long and gives huge stress to read.
