Mozy for Backups
June 30th, 2008 by Chuck Sharp
I bit the bullet. We joined Mozy two days ago. For $55/yr, you can have 1 PC backed up up completely online, no size limit. Of course, there’s no reason to not keep backup files from other laptops & PCs on this PC too. So, we did it. And it started the first 130 GB backup two days ago. And it timed out yesterday at 11G. And now it’s back to 1.1%.
I’ll let you know how this backup turns out… If everything works well, this will be an excellent backup system. Afterall, it backs up automatically, it’s easy to restore files, and I don’t need to worry about my all of my data-eggs in a single basket (our home).
Update 2008-07-07:
Mozy is at 25% for the initial backup. Still chugging away.
Update 2008-07-22:
Well, I think it finished a couple of days ago. It was rough, but I managed to do a full restore of some random test photos and my entire ‘files’ directory. I’ll keep testing it, but it looks like it made it so far. Round 1, done.
