Jott is out of beta, charging money now…

August 20th, 2008 by Chuck Sharp

Well, the dreaded “we’re out of beta” message has come. They’ve announced their three plans: basic (free), standard ($3.95/mo), and pro ($12.95/mo). They’re reasonably priced. I am personally fairly upset that the free version doesn’t send emails to you, you must manage and read all jotts at their website. This means that I would no longer be able to efficiently use it for an inbox. I mean, seriously, is the email alert really worth $4 a month to me? On top of that, the jott recording size for both basic and standard is only 15 seconds.

I guess I’ll sign up for the paid service. The email feature really is worth $4 a month (don’t tell Jott, but it’s probably worth a lot more). Right now, they’re offering 26% off an annual subscription, so it’s $35/yr. I guess I’ll have to start using the premium jott services too, not just the voice-to-email option I use religiously. Fortunately, I also haven’t tapped the to-people jotting capabilities either, so this will give me an incentive.

I know, I may be acting childish about the pricing, just because it’s been free for so long. No one likes to have the prices raised (especially from free). However, I just hate the thought that I have to buy the service to use its most basic features. I really think the email feature should have been free. Oh well. I love Jott, what can I say?

I agree the email reminder should be sent with all Jotts. I have been using Jott for awhile now, but don’t see myself using it much anymore. They should have kept the free pricing. Let’s see what happens to their membership.

Right. I mean, I totally understand charging a fee, I would too. They have every right to do so. I just think the basic email functionality should have remained free.
